2009 Dover Lodge Potluck – A Success!

Friends and Brethren, thank you for joining us for the 2009 Dover Lodge Potluck Dinner! We were filled to near capacity in the room, and what a joy it was to have Brethren and visitors of all ages. The halls of Dover Lodge were vitalized by the laughter of children at play and by the Brotherly Love shared by all in attendance. Long-time WKYC Channel 3 Weather Forecaster Eileen McShea was our guest speaker, and gave an informative talk on Hanson Services, and how it can benefit our loved ones.

Special thanks to all the Brethren and their wives who helped make this happen. We also especially thank our visitors, and hope that they return for future events at Dover Lodge!

Below is a brief slideshow of the event. The photos were taken by cell phone, and thus the poor quality, but we wanted to show some of the sights of the potluck!

Dover’s Flamenco Soul

We are educated men. We spend time improving ourselves in the knowledge of nature’s laws, and bind ourselves together as Brethren in this world of separation. We study the meaning of our ritual, and perfect our memories of the ancient texts and tenets of our gentle Craft. We endeavor to impart very deep truths to the men who walk across our threshold, and labor endlessly to ingrain Masonry’s teachings in order to make good men better.

But every so often, our souls soar to the heights when our Brethren practice their art.

During our last meeting, we were treated to a display of Brother Altuntas’ skill in playing guitar in the timeless Flamenco style. After a discourse on the origin and stylistic genre of this passionate music, the walls of Dover Lodge seemed themselves to listen as our Brother took us on a journey by playing us a sample.

Brethren and friends, Dover Lodge is undertaking an amazing journey of strongest brotherhood, mystical and moving teaching, and passionate art. Won’t you come walk with us?

Below is a sample of Brother Altuntas’ work. Please note – what he plays below is not from memory or sheet music. It is completely spontaneous and impromptu.

Freemasonry Today

A nice video about Freemasonry in today’s context. This video has been added to our “What Is A Mason?” page. There is now a link from our “What Is A Mason?” page where we will collect and display Masonic multimedia from around the web. We hope you enjoy it!

Brother Bill Yeager

[NOTE : Time Updated]

Brethren, it is with a deep sense of sorrow that we report the loss of a Brother of Dover Lodge. Brother Bill Yeager, a long-time member of Dover Lodge and a Master Mason for 65 years, passed to the Celestial Lodge above on Friday February 27th. Brother Yeager will be sorely missed, as he was truly a pillar of Dover Lodge.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 21st at 4:00pm at Dover Congregational Church.

Solemn strikes the funeral chime,
Notes of our departing time;
As we journey here below.
Through a pilgrimage of woe!

Mortals, now indulge a tear,
For mortality is here!
See how wide her trophies wave
O’er the slumbers of the grave!

Here another guest we bring,
Seraphs of celestial wing,
To our funeral altar come,
Waft this friend and brother home.

Lord of all! Below – above –
Fill our hearts with truth and love;
When dissolves our earthly tie,
Take us to Thy Lodge on high.

Brother Yeager, we’ll miss you. We’ll look forward to meeting again on the Level of the Celestial Lodge above.

Dover Lodge Open House

[Please note the time change!]

We’re opening our doors to the public! Please join us on Saturday March 21st, 2009 from 1pm-3pm, and get an insider’s look at Dover Masonic Lodge. We’ll be serving light snacks and will be there to answer any questions you might have about Freemasonry in general and Dover Lodge in particular. Ever wonder what the inside of a Lodge Room looks like? What do Masons do behind closed doors? What are all these symbols associated with Masonry? Is it just a bunch of stuffy people? Do the Masons know where the “National Treasure” is hidden?

You’ll be able to get answers from Masons themselves, and see some things upon which most people have never laid eyes. So come out and join us!
