Brethren of Dover Lodge, we will be holding an outdoor barbecue on Thursday August 23rd at 6pm behind our Masonic Temple to welcome our petitioners! Please come out and spend some time getting to know these men who have expressed their desire for the Light of Masonry from Dover Lodge. Dress is smart casual – shorts (no cut-offs) and short sleeved shirt (polo-style preferred).
After a hamburger and hot dog barbecue, we will be presenting a program for our petitioners titled, “The Masonic Path to Wisdom”. This will be a multi-part and multi-presenter educational program informing our petitioners (and our Brethren) about the various Masonic bodies that make up our Order.
RSVPs are appreciated via email to Right Worshipful Brother William Carter!
Brethren and friends of Dover Lodge, the Worshipful Master has called for a Lodge Work Day on August 11th 2018 at 9am! Please come out and help beautify your Lodge! Any who are able to bring cleanup tools, both interior and exterior (such as string trimmers and a lawn mower) would be much appreciated. The Worshipful Master will be bringing in donuts and coffee to energize everyone in the morning.
Our Worshipful Master has also appointed a Project Manager for ongoing improvement projects throughout the year. Please be prepared to share ideas on any small projects to help update and beautify our Lodge!
An educational program recently given by our Lodge Education Officer.
To Freemasons, there are few things more sacred than ritual, the proper execution of which reminds each individual of the work that he is about to undertake, the work that he has promised to undertake, or the work he is still to do. The ritual is what we propagate, the teachings contained in it have been defined not only by each man, but by the Fraternity itself over years upon years of labor. It is without argument, that the ritual is the cornerstone by which our Fraternity rests upon. Continue Reading
A great number of our members grew up reciting Pluto as the ninth planet in our solar system. For many it came as a disappointment that what for years was held as truth was recently changed, where we no longer have 9 but rather 8 planets in our solar system.
How did that happen? And why does that matter to a Freemason?
Pluto was discovered in 1930 by astronomer Clyde Tombaugh and was originally called “Planet X”, until it was renamed “Pluto” at the suggestion of an 11-year-old English girl. After much study it was found that Pluto’s diameter is around 1500 miles, less than 1/5th the size of Earth’s diameter. Further research in 2005 discovered other bodies more distant than Pluto of a similar size, notably a body named “Eris” whose diameter is 1600 miles. Like Pluto, Eris was in an area known as the “Kuiper Belt”, a belt of stellar objects that extends from Neptune out some 5 billion miles.
